Part 2 – Slideshows

Part 2 of the Monsoons Book Club digital exhibition, The Art of Disobedience, presents two slideshows which focus contemporary disobedience in Malaysia.

The first slideshow is 7 slides of well-known cartoons by Malaysian cartoonist Zunar.

In August 2015, 500,000 people participated in a demonstration in Malaysia calling for an end to corruption and establishment of free and fair election. In response to the protest call, the Malaysian government proclaimed the wearing of yellow t-shirts and the word ‘Bersih 4’ illegal (bersih means clean in Malay). The people defied the ban and continued with the protests. The second slide show consists of posters and photographs taken during the protest, collated by Monsoons Book Club.

Materials mainly provided by Bersih 2.0 Malaysia and where possible sources are acknowledged.

Songs by BangAst, Bersih Bersih Turun Turun, and Ale Ale.
